“”Emmanuel Cortes is an artist and urban planner, Mexican by blood, Chicagoan by heart, and Brussels sprout for love. Everything he does in life is inspired by the chaotic nature of the urban environment, decomposition and the imperfect. In his work, he generally combines found materials and traditional media while illustrating social & urban systems. These include but are not limited to family, domesticity, transportation, and graffiti. He tries to reimagine the decay and erosion we experience in socio-urban environments into functional art. This sometimes translates into allegorical art or a redesigned and better functioning object or space.
He is also thethe founder of ExtraMedium Creative Collaborative in Chicago. Since my recent move to Belgium, it is no longer in action and I will soon re-animate it in Brussels.””
